Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until creamy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir the dry mixture into the wet mixture until just combined, then fold in the chocolate chips.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are golden and the centers still look slightly soft. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then move to a wire rack.
