Traditional Soft Pretzels

Soft and chewy baked pretzels with a dark brown crust, sprinkled with coarse salt.

Ingredients

  • yeast
  • warm water
  • butter
  • baking soda
  • coarse pretzel salt

Instructions

  1. 1Knead flour, yeast, warm water, and butter to make dough; rise for 45 minutes.
  2. 2Divide dough, roll into ropes, and twist into pretzel shapes.
  3. 3Boil baking soda in water, dip each pretzel for 10 seconds (alkaline bath).
  4. 4Place on a baking sheet, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12 minutes until dark brown.
