Moussaka

Baked dish of layered eggplant, potatoes, spiced ground beef, and a thick, creamy béchamel topping.

Ingredients

Provided

  • eggplants sliced
  • potatoes sliced
  • ground beef
  • onion chopped
  • tomato sauce
  • cinnamon
  • butter and flour
  • milk for béchamel
  • Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. 1Brush eggplant and potato slices with oil and bake at 400°F for 15 minutes to soften.
  2. 2Sauté ground beef and onions, add tomato sauce, cinnamon, salt, and pepper; simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. 3Make Béchamel: cook butter and flour, whisk in milk until thick, then stir in egg yolk and grated cheese.
  4. 4Layer potatoes, eggplants, beef sauce, and top with Béchamel.
  5. 5Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes until top is puffed and golden brown.
