German Spaetzle Noodles

Hand-scraped tiny egg noodles sautéed in butter with Gruyere cheese.

Ingredients

Provided

  • flour
  • eggs
  • milk or water
  • butter
  • Gruyere cheese grated
  • ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. 1Whisk flour, eggs, milk, nutmeg, and salt to make a wet sticky batter.
  2. 2Press batter through a spaetzle maker (or colander with large holes) into boiling water.
  3. 3Cook for 2 minutes until noodles float, then drain.
  4. 4Sauté noodles in butter in a hot pan, stir in Gruyere cheese until melted.
