Crispy beer-battered cod fillets served with hot, double-fried potato chips.

Ingredients

Provided

  • cod or haddock fillets
  • flour
  • baking powder
  • cold ale or beer
  • potatoes cut into chips
  • frying oil

Instructions

  1. 1Soak potato chips in water, dry, and fry at 325°F for 5 minutes; drain.
  2. 2Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and cold beer to make a thick batter.
  3. 3Dredge cod fillets in dry flour, dip into the beer batter, and fry in hot oil (375°F/190°C) for 6-8 minutes until golden.
  4. 4Fry the potato chips a second time at 375°F for 3 minutes until crispy.
