Croque Monsieur

A classic French toasted ham and cheese sandwich topped with creamy béchamel sauce.

Ingredients

  • brioche bread slices
  • ham slices
  • Gruyere cheese sliced
  • butter
  • flour
  • milk
  • nutmeg

Instructions

  1. 1Melt butter, stir in flour, and whisk in milk until a thick Béchamel forms. Season with nutmeg.
  2. 2Spread butter on bread slices and griddle until toasted on one side.
  3. 3Assemble sandwich with ham, cheese, and a spread of Béchamel inside.
  4. 4Top sandwich with more Béchamel and Gruyere cheese.
  5. 5Broil in the oven for 5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbling.
