Baklava

Layers of crisp phyllo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey syrup.

Ingredients

Provided

  • phyllo pastry sheets
  • walnuts and pistachios chopped
  • butter melted
  • sugar
  • honey
  • cinnamon
  • water

Instructions

  1. 1Boil sugar, honey, water, and cinnamon to make syrup; cool.
  2. 2Layer phyllo sheets in a baking pan, brushing each with melted butter.
  3. 3Spread a layer of chopped nuts, top with more buttered phyllo sheets, and repeat.
  4. 4Cut into diamonds and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes.
  5. 5Pour the cold syrup over the hot baklava immediately after baking.
